Pink is the new red
Everywhere you go, someone is sporting a fuchsia or bubblegum lip. While this trend isn’t drastic from bleached eyebrows and red eyeliner, it is a leap for those who never stray from their routine/rut. I dabbled on the pinker side of life when everyone was buying MAC’s Brave lipstick after Kylie Jenner revealed she used it. It only lasted for a few months and I replaced Brave with my tried and true nude that is being worn down to a nub.
Since then, I haven’t owned a pink lipstick in my makeup drawer. It wasn’t until my interview with Heather that I decided to take the leap. One day while browsing at Sephora like I always do; I spotted the Urban Decay lipstick display and began to swatch shades all over my left arm. It wasn’t until I swatched Alpha, a stunning deep rose shade that I knew I found my new shade for the summer. As soon as I put it on my lips, I knew right then and there, under the bright lights and checkered tiles that I was in love. A shade different from the rows of terracottas and crimson lipsticks sitting in my drawer, I grabbed the tube and made a beeline to the cashier.
Ever since I purchased it, I have been wearing it nonstop. If you’re hesitant on joining the trend, keep in mind that just like you have tried tirelessly to find your perfect go-to nude, you have to do the same with the perfect pink. Pink is this season’s power color and there is no denying it! If you want to ease into the trend, try layering it over a red lip liner to create an ombre effect. But, if you’re ready to kick it up then pair it with a plum/purple lip liner. It will make your pout look not only fuller but will create that bold lip that will make a statement wherever you go.
