Heather Garcia

Heather Garcia is busy, but that’s nothing new.

She is always on-the-go and today is no different. She is in the mist of producing a new film, Bound, and has to talk to the director to finalize some details. Heather is a true creative with many titles. A producer, editor, writer, painter, artist, and overall boss. She currently resides in Seattle Washington and when she isn’t working as a video editor for Cut.com during the day, then she is working on other projects around filmmaking. I caught up with the recent Cornish College graduate on what she relies on to look and feel like her true, authentic self. She also goes in depth about following your passion, how long it takes to get killer eyebrows, and who inspires her the most.

“I originally came to Seattle for my undergrad at Cornish College of the Arts. It was unique in that it had a foundation year which required all first years to be together and experiment in different visual arts (art, design, and film). Before declaring my major, I heard the department chairs speak about their representative programs and realized that I was no longer challenged by fine art (originally went in as a painting major.) I was ready to start something new and, so I entered Cornish’s film program, which was only two years old by then and went from not knowing how to hold a camera to becoming comfortable running a set. I got into producing when I studied abroad in Havana, Cuba. I was scheduling shoots for my Tisch classmates who didn’t know how to speak Spanish as well as organizing and orchestrating (some would say bossing) a shoot was so satisfying. Film is such a collaborative medium and I’ve flourished within it socially in a way I never would have if I had been stuck painting in a studio by myself.

morning routine:

I wake up at 6:30 am. Sometimes I listen to NYT’s The Daily, other times I put on some Bossa nova or something chill that’ll set the day’s mood. I take a quick, cool shower, wash my face, brush my teeth and get dressed. It takes me about 15 minutes to put on my makeup (and 10 of them are spent on my eyebrows lol). I drink some water and maybe pet the cat before heading to the bus. Coffee is optional if I’m not running late.

currently using:

I am currently using Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser because it’s gentle on my skin. I pair it with Bioderma Micellar Water at night to remove makeup and I use Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream before topping off with Marula oil. Skincare is very important to me since it’s often the only time I can fit self-care into my busy schedule. In the morning after washing and moisturizing, I put on sunblock then follow with Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer (for that dewiness!!) and Dr. Jarts Black Label Detox BB Cream. For my eyebrows, I use Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony.

the look:

When I put on makeup, I try to go for sophisticated and effortless. Something that gives my outfit an extra pop or something to offer more structure to my look. Often times that comes with a dark or bright lip. I’m currently in love with pink lipstick since it makes my look so much more polished and fun. It’s hard to look cute when you’re busy and pink lipstick is the easiest. It’s true to myself and my crazy personality/schedule.

I cannot leave my house without my Chloé Eau de Parfum, IT Cosmetics Redness Neutralizing Color-Correcting Cream, Glossier’s Balm Dotcom, and whatever lipstick I’m wearing that day. Also, reusable straw and cutlery! I make it a habit to always leave room in my purse for that. As well as a tiny notebook and pen if it’s a day where I feel like I can post up and write somewhere.
