True Blue

The first eyeshadow I was drawn to was a bright blue shade called Electric Eel.

Whenever my older sister would visit the MAC counter, which would be frequently, I would head directly to the eyeshadow display and swatch the shade. My fascination with blue eyeshadow was reignited when I picked up Sesh, Milk Makeup cream eyeshadow. Inspired by the new addition, I decided to play around with my everyday eye looks by using different blues in my makeup cabinet. Here are three looks for those who want to play around with blue. Now, I will go on the record and say that I AM NOT. REPEAT. NOT A MAKEUP ARTIST. If you can blend better than me, then, by all means, do your thing and give me some tips. Also, some products that I have used are no longer available because they’re old so I put an asterisk next to products that are similar and will give you the same effect.

Electric Wing

A twist on my classic winged liner, I decided to switch out my black liquid liner for the aforementioned Sesh. I wanted a graphic, editorial look that could work for day or night.

Face:  Keep it minimal and light with a tinted moisturizer or light foundation. You don’t want to even out any redness rather than hide imperfections. Use your favorite concealer under your eyes and any small blemishes you want to hide. Go in with bronzer to add warmth to your face and you’re done!

Eyes:  Prime your eyes with your favorite eye primer and use an eyeshadow that closely matches your skin tone. Cover your entire lid with the shade as your base. Use a small pea-size amount of blue eye pigment and an angled eyeliner brush to draw a simple cat eye-flick. Tie in the look by keeping your brows simple and feathered with a brow pencil and apply a light coat of mascara.

Lips:  I love a pink nude lip to go with the stark blue. Lightly line lips with a pink nude lip liner and apply a matching lipstick on top. Opt for a lipstick that has a glaze finish rather matte.

Bright Eyes

I love the look of popping color onto the inner corners of a neutral eye look. A bright, shimmery turquoise blue shade pays homage to the sultry sex-kitten look of the sixties.

Face:  A clean, smooth canvas is essential and any foundation you love that is medium to full coverage will work for this look. Use your concealer to hide any dark eye circles and blemishes. Create a light flush on the face by using a brown pink blush to highlight the apples of the cheeks and a dash on the nose.

Eyes:  Prime your eyes with eye primer and apply a warm light brown toned eyeshadow as your base. Next, use a warm-toned dark chocolate brown for the crease. Apply lightly and work in layers, focusing on blending as much as possible. Pop the light blue eyeshadow on the inner corners of the eyes. Line the top of your eyes with a brown eye pencil to create subtle definition. Finish it off with two coats of mascara and a clean, natural brow.

Lips:  Top it off with a brown pink lipstick to pull the sixties look altogether.

Smoke Detector

For a night out, I think a navy smoky eye is a good change of pace. Not only is this the easiest but it’s the sultriest look with the hint of shimmer in the shadow.

Face:  Start with a clear base with medium to full coverage foundation. Hit under the eyes with concealer to eliminate any dark circles. Add warmth to your face with bronzer and top it off with a cream champagne highlighter on the high points of your face.

Eyes:  Prime your lids and apply an eye shadow that matches your skin tone all over the lid. With a wet angled eyeliner brush, dip into a shimmery navy shadow and draw a winged cat-eye. Follow by lining the bottom lash line with the same navy shadow and connect the flicks. Blend out any harsh lines with a clean pencil brush. Go in with a pigmented black eye liner pencil on the inner corner of your eyes. Brush eyebrows upwards with a brow gel to add volume. Finish it off with two coats of mascara.

Lips:  A lip gloss with glitter will always pop!
