Rose gold and all

A Gilded Routine for one

In the world of makeup, I’m a complete sucker for beautiful packaging (damn you Sanrio!)

I will always be drawn to the glitz of a newly acquired lipstick or eyeshadow palette. However, looks aren’t the only thing that matter so much as performance and durability. What’s the point if the sole purpose is to display on my vanity or to spot at the bottom of my tote? Here are some that I always keep on hand.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter in Fantasy

The smell is gorgeous, a light aroma of coconut wafts and quickly dissipates when applied to the skin. While the scent is gorgeous, the formula is what won me over. It dispenses like gel  and when spread, it transforms to a creamy opaque shimmer across the skin. The gel is buildable for desired intensity, going for dewy to headlights for days. The product is advertised to be used either alone as a highlighter or mixed into primer or foundation. I prefer to use it alone as a highlighter for a night out slurping tequila shots with my girls. When I want something a bit more low-key, say for Stonemill Matcha runs, I mix it in with my Glossier Skin Tint and tap it onto the high points of my face.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder in Medium 2

Powder was not in my rotation until a few months ago when I decided to pick up Charlotte Tilbury’s powder on a whim. Oil has always been a companion on my face since adolescence and will continue to be there for me, whether I want it or not. The Airbrush Flawless Finish powder lives to its namesake, but for a pretty penny. The fine powder disappears seamlessly into the skin, leaving no cast on the complexion. I did notice that it tended to minimize my pore size and smooth out the texture along my cheekbones. It simply feels as if I am wearing nothing at all…nothing at all…nothing at all…(shout out to Simpsons dorks out there.) I use the powder mainly along my t-zone and under my eyes to set my concealer with the E.L.F. Powder Blurring Brush.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Walk of Shame

A raspberry shade that slips onto the lips without any pressure that is lightweight and luscious? Yes please! Walk of Shame is my go-to shade when I want a hint of color but not too much flash. The go-to lipstick when I have errands to run and I want to pull my look together. It truly fits the category of lipsticks that you forget you’re wearing until you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. Who is she? Where did she get that shade? Why has she been staring at the mirror for two minutes? The only slight downside, if it could even be called that is the finish isn’t exactly matte but rather a subtle satin finish. To make it matte, simply blot your lips on a piece of tissue and it takes on the look of a matte stain. You can build it up to your desired intensity, going from a popsicle stain to a deeper, richer tint.
